INFRA-RED IMAGES

Click the thumbnail above to see infrared images from Italy. These were made with a modified Canon Powershot G1. You can see what that means by checking out the technical note on Don Ellis' website. Each G1 seems to have its own false colors even when using the same Hoya R72 IR filter. And when modified, these colors change, but mine kept the celeste green tint the foliage. I swap the red and blue channels to get the sky to have a blue hue, and sometimes mask the sky to ensure I get the blue skies but the pale green trees and grass. |

| Notes on these images above. The lower ones were made with an unmodified Canon Powershot G1, using a Hoya R72 IR pass filter. Most are adjusted for white balance, but without channel switching, so the magenta cast to the sky is typical. The later images, in the second row were made with a Powershot G3, which was not a particularly good IR camera due to a stronger IR filter built into the body. The images in the top row were made with the modified G1. No tripod was necessary for these images. | |||
