An introduction to personal investing strategies within the broader context of investment markets and personal finances. We use the tools of economic analysis to understand the markets for financial assets, why people buy them, and why people sell them. There is an optional on-line investment project in which students buy and trade an investment portfolio for which an email account and web access is required. The alternative project in which you conduct a investment portfolio analysis, would also benefit considerably from having web access. Grades are determined from exams, a project and occasional homework assignments. You will also be invited to present ideas for stocks of interest in an in-class debate, for which you can sign up. Extra credit points are available for this activity. I disseminate information in class and via this website. All printed material is available on this site exclusively. You can obtain the syllabus and a rough lecture guide from here. Your primary source for course material, and information about investing, stocks, companies and other assets is the world wide web. I not only strongly encourage you to use the internet, I believe it to be your biggest resource, and you should be integrating it into your study patterns on an increasing basis. Of course, not everything you read on the internet is valid, or true, or believable. As yet no TA has been assigned to this class. When the information is available I will update it here, and in class. \ Please do not email your assignments to him--print them and hand them in during class |
